The trailer is extremely short and left me with one rather big impression: “Wait, what Bioware?”
Well, as I’ve learned by breaking the research rule I established when I started this particular series (this reaction shot would have been incredibly short otherwise), the original developers of the C&C series; Westwood studios, closed down shop awhile back and the series had been taken over by EA Los Angeles. With Command & Conquer Generals 2, a new studio within Bioware is taking over for the development of the latest in a series that started the RTS craze.
Bioware Victory is implementing the newly developed Frostbite Engine 2.0 that many a gamer has recently seen in Battlefield 3 for Command & Conquer Generals 2. This simply means it will be pretty, and stuff will blow up and take damage in a much more realistic fashion.
When I originally watched all of these VGA world premiere videos, I was watching them on a loop, and just letting them play out so I wouldn’t know what they were at first. It was like actually watching the VGAs, but without having to actually watch the VGAs.
When the trailer started and I saw Bioware followed by the Frostbite engine, I about jumped out of my seat with excitement at the premise.
“Bioware is going to use this new awesome engine in one of their games!? HOLY SHIT! What is it!?” I thought exuberantly, before the trailer continued and revealed it was just another Command & Conquer game.
