Okay, The Last of Us doesn’t star Nathan Drake taking on a hoard of zombies in some post-apocalyptic setting (that would be awesome though). The Last of Us is, however, a game by Naughty Dog (makers of Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Dexter) that will once again put the full potential of the PS3 hardware to the test (Yes, they also made Uncharted. That goes without saying. I realize I said it, I’m a tool).
The trailer shown at 2011′s VGAs is a beautifully rendered tale of zombie survival. While many may think the zombie apocalypse has been done to death in virtually all forms of entertainment (I disagree, I love zombies), there is no doubt that Naughty Dog has shown a knack for beautifully cinematic, character driven games. If there is one area that most zombie games haven’t explored, it is the best part of any Zombie flick; the survivors. The struggle of surviving and how a tragedy of this magnitude changes people and society is what drives a story set in this sort of narrative, and I can not help but to be intrigued by the world Naughty Dog will build with The Last of Us.
Plus, these zombies run! Running zombies are extra freaky. Also, what in the hell is with the weird bubble faced zombies in the trailer? What is that? Are these zombies, or some sort of 28 Days Later spin-off breed?
